A DROP-IN session is being staged for anyone interested in becoming a governor at Airedale Hospital.

Elections to the governing body will take place this year for areas including Keighley Central – taking in Utley, Knowle Park and Cliffe Castle – and Keighley West, incorporating Laycock, Braithwaite, Fell Lane, Exley Head and Bracken Bank.

The drop-in event – at the hospital's education centre on March 31, from 10.30am to 12.30pm – will provide information about the governors' role and the election process.

There will also be a chance to meet current governors.

Tea and coffee will be provided.

Michael Luger, chairman of Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, said: "Most people become governors as they are interested in putting something back into their community.

"Their role is to represent the interests of the public and members and so they need to devote time to finding out what people think.

"Governors also need to make sure the non-executive directors account for the performance of the board by asking the right questions and considering reports on how the trust is working."
