VISITORS flocked to the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway this weekend for the annual Winter Steam Gala.

An array of locomotives was in operation from Friday until today on the five-mile line.

The popular event draws enthusiasts and families alike.

Sarah Howsen, K&WVR marketing officer, said: "We had a good turnout on Friday and Saturday in particular.

"The weather was against us for the final day but despite that, there were still very steady numbers.

"We're extremely pleased with how it went."

Engines in service included the Black 5, a K&WVR loco which has been on loan elsewhere but returned 'home' for the weekend.

It will be heading off again – to Fort William – this summer, but coming back to Keighley in October.

Two visiting locomotives also joined the home-based fleet.

The ex-LMS Crab 2-6-0 13065 arrived courtesy of the East Lancashire Railway.

The loco was restored to working order after being saved from the scrapyard four decades ago.

And it was joined by the LNER B1 Class 4-6-0 61264, owned by the Thompson B1 Locomotive Trust.

The engine was built at the Glasgow works of the North British Locomotive Company and entered traffic at Parkeston Quay, Harwich in 1947.

It was withdrawn in 1965 and after being used as a stationary boiler, ended up in Barry scrapyard.

The Thompson B1 Locomotive Trust bought it in 1976 and today its home is on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

The weekend also included free guided tours of the engine shed and workshop at Haworth, and the museums at Ingrow were open.
