A 33-YEAR-OLD man has been jailed for 19 months for two drink and drug-fuelled attacks on his partner.

Jonathan Parker broke the woman's jaw and slapped her so hard she fell and struck her head, Bradford Crown Court heard.

Parker, of Devonshire Street West, Keighley, pleaded guilty to causing his victim grievous bodily harm on October 30 and actual bodily harm on November 11.

While she was being treated in hospital after the second attack, police forced entry to her home and found Parker hiding under a bed. There was blood on doors and bedding and broken ornaments.

Parker, who was sentenced on a video link to Leeds Prison, had previous convictions for battery and breaching non-molestation orders.

The court heard those offences did not involve his latest victim.

Prosecutor Ben Campbell said the woman recognised that Parker had mental health problems and did not want him to get into serious trouble.

Nigel Jamieson said in mitigation that Parker had suffered "a dismal personal history" when he was growing up.

"He was a witness to, and victim of, domestic violence over a long period of time," Mr Jamieson said.

"He has a strong desire to work with people who will help him."

Parker's partner had visited him in prison and the couple hoped for a reconciliation.

Judge Jonathan Rose accepted that Parker had difficulties.

"But this sentence is a warning to men that lifting a hand to a woman is never a way to resolve an argument."
