KEIGHLEY students due to help ill and elderly pilgrims in Lourdes this spring received a preparatory talk from a veteran of pilgrimages to this holy site.

Father Peter Casey met a group of 20 Year 10 pupils from Holy Family Catholic School.

Father Casey, who is from Cavan in Ireland, has been going to Lourdes in southern France with pilgrims from his own diocese for about 20 years.

He said: “I explained to the pupils the meaning and value of what they’ll be doing in Lourdes.

“Elderly pilgrims can’t turn back the clock themselves, but they can feel young again by being with these pupils. It creates a very lively and dynamic atmosphere. Lourdes is a place where the ordinary order of things is turned upside down. The elderly and sick come first and the young and healthy come second.”
