VOLUNTEERS returned to an Oakworth picnic area to continue rebuilding and strengthening its dry stone walls.

A group of 15 local people gathered at Cure Hill.

Members of Keighley's North Dean Road-based Cabbage Club provided on-site catering for the volunteers, serving up food and hot drinks.

Community development worker Pip Gibson said: "This was a second instalment as part of a project to reinvigorate this area and bring it back into use.

"Nelsons Builders' Merchants provided sand and cement free of charge so we could fix top stones onto a dry stone wall.

"Most of the wall next to the highway has now been rebuilt, and we've also created sanctuaries for hedgehogs and other small creatures.

"Simon Thornton, who is a local groundwork businessman, spent the day with us to show our volunteers how to do the walling.

"Another man had built some bird boxes and an owl box which our volunteers put up in the trees, together with some bat boxes.

"We're still looking for donations of spring flowering bulbs."

She said there would be a further session at Cure Hill in future, though the date has yet to be confirmed.

Anyone is welcome to join in and people wanting updates on the project can call Pip on 07587 210101 or visit the Oakworth Community Hub Facebook page.
