A car crashed in Keighley following what was believed to be a police pursuit.

It is understood officers from North Yorkshire had followed the vehicle into the neighbouring force area after it failed to stop.

The car crashed into parked vehicles on the B6265 Skipton Road in Utley, at about 4am on January 8.

Two people were taken to Airedale Hospital at Steeton for treatment while a third casualty, whose injuries were potentially more serious, went to Leeds General Infirmary.

Three ambulances attended the incident, which happened between the Birchwood Road and St John's Road junctions.

Skipton Road was closed for several hours – and traffic diverted – while emergency services dealt with the aftermath of the crash.

North Yorkshire Police (NYP), the investigating force, said the incident had been referred to the IPCC.

NYP declined to elaborate on the circumstances of the incident.

"It would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage," said a spokesman.

An IPCC spokesman: “We received a referral from North Yorkshire Police regarding this road traffic incident. After careful assessment, we have decided the matter is suitable for local investigation by the police force, without the involvement of the IPCC.”
