A KEIGHLEY rugby player who died tragically young at the age of just 17 has been remembered at a fundraising day.

Today’s sunshine brought the crowds out to the memorial day for Callum Mynott, who had played rugby from the age of six and died of cancer in hospital in Leeds on October 3 last year.

Organisers of the Keighley Albion Rugby Club event, based at Crossflatts Cricket Club, Keighley Road, Bingley, were thrilled with the turnout.

Proceeds from the fun day will be going towards the cancer charity for young people CLIC Sargent.

There was a poignant moment during the day when team mates of Callum, known as CJ to his family and friends, walked on to the pitch ready to face their West Bowling team opponents wearing Respect CJ 9 t-shirts.

Helen Banks, Callum’s auntie, said: “He has been in everyone’s hearts and minds.”

Brave Callum fought off cancer more than seven years ago until his illness returned.

He had played for Keighley Albion, Keighley Cougars Cubs and Craven College, and also played Rugby Union for Bingley Bees.
