A TRIO who underwent a "Brave the Shave" in Haworth for Macmillan Cancer Support have smashed their fundraising target.

Dave and Jo Wilson, who run The Old Sun in West Lane, had their heads shaved alongside their hotel manager Janet Jenkins.

They had originally aimed to collect about £500 but have instead managed roughly double that amount.

Most of the head shave was carried out by Rebecca Hurdus, of Halo salon in Mill Hey, though individual charity evening supporters could cut off some hair in return for donations.

The night included a raffle featuring many prizes generously donated by businesses in the area.

The following day the pub hosted karaoke where proceeds from the vodka jelly shots sold also went to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Mrs Wilson paid tribute to the "fantastic" support offered by businesses in Haworth's Main Street who gave the prizes for the raffle.

"The number of people who helped us out was amazing," she added.

"Everyone in the pub got behind us. They were cheering and clapping and the atmosphere was incredible.

"We wanted to help Macmillan because they have supported our own family, and let's face it, who hasn't been touched by cancer?

"Everybody who donated something had their own story to tell about how cancer has affected them.

"One lady who contributed had lost her own five-year-old grandson to cancer, and since then she's been volunteering to help other people with this illness."
