SOME magic was sprinkled at Oakworth's Holden Park.

Crowds packed into the park for the annual Fairy Fest.

Organisers of Saturday's event estimate that about 3,000 people attended.

"It was absolutely brilliant," said Jackie McGinnis, chairman of the Friends of Holden Park group, which stages the fest.

"We get many local people come along but it also attracts visitors and stallholders from a wide area, right across the north.

"A lot of work goes into organising the event – and we're only a relatively small group of volunteers – but it is so rewarding to see all the children and adults enjoying themselves.

"We get some wonderful fancy dress as well, which really adds to the atmosphere.

"And the weather was great, which helps!"

Attractions on the park's top field included over 40 stalls, featuring everything from clothing and candles to food.

Some organisations, such as the Royal British Legion, were represented but there were also individual craftspeople.

There were bouncy castles, music, face painting and acts such as magic and juggling.

Haworth Ukulele Group played and dancers from NorthWind and Team X Treme performed.

The event was opened by Keighley's town mayor, Councillor Shabir Ahmed.

First held six years ago, the fest has grown into a major event on the village calendar.

All proceeds are ploughed into maintaining and improving the park.

"It began as a small event which had been suggested to raise money," said Mrs McGinnis.

"Over the years it has just grown and grown.

"Whilst the money helps with projects, the event is all about the community coming together and having fun and most importantly making use of the park.

"We have some terrific facilities in the park, including a children's play area and a multi-use games area, both of which are very popular.

"We're currently in the process of applying for a grant from Keighley Town Council for more planting to be carried out.

"Although we're not a big group, we do what we can to help look after and improve the park for everybody to enjoy."
