A LONG-serving trustee of a village church has died at the age of 91.

Tributes have been paid to Daisy Tempest, who died on July 26 following a long illness.

She was a member and trustee of Scar Top Chapel, Stanbury, which she had attended since she was just four-years-old.

Fellow trustee Kathleen Snowden said: "She was a well respected member of the community and will be missed by many. If anyone needed help Daisy would be there.

"She was a very kind, thoughtful, loving lady."

Mrs Tempest, whose maiden name was Townend, lived all her life in the Worth Valley, and spent time in both Stanbury and Oakworth.

She was born in 1925 and went to Oldfield School, walking two miles each day from her home at Burnside Farm, Two Laws, to get there.

During the Second World War she served with the Women's Land Army at a local farm in Stanbury.

In May 1951 she married Kenneth Tempest at Bridgehouse Methodist Church, in Haworth.

She was a founding member of the Worth Valley Young Farmers Club and was a Sunday School teacher for many years.

Her funeral service takes place at Scar Top Chapel, starting at 12.15pm tomorrow. (Friday August 5)
