HAWORTH stepped back in time to the Swinging Sixties for an action-packed weekend.

Hippies, mods and rockers painted a psychedelic picture of the era in the village as thousands of visitors dressed to impress in 1960s garb.

The event also included a Dr Who Tardis outside the Black Bull pub in Main Street.

It was the first time the weekend had been held for seven years due to problems finding an organising committee

More than 5,000 people visited the free two-day event and organisers have promised the event will return next year.

Stephen Hogg, event organiser and Haworth 1960s Weekend committee member, said: “It’s gone really well.

“It is our first year back. We will definitely be bringing it back next year.

“Everyone seemed to be enjoying it and people were dancing in the rain on Saturday.

“So much work has gone into organising it this year. The committee has done really well.”

Meanwhile, Guiseley Carnival attracted hundreds of visitors.

The event started with a parade on Station Road with events continuing in the Station pub car park.

"Well over a thousand people were involved, it was packed in places," said Julie Jacques, one of the volunteer helpers.

"All the money raised goes toward our annual coach trip for the Guiseley Senior Citizens Association.

"Next month we will be taking 230 people in six coaches to Lytham St Annes, so we're hoping to have raised some £1,500.

"This will be the 24th trip we've been able to run

"It really was a lovely day, with all the local schools and organisations taking part.

"And we had the Air Cadets marching band and also majorettes.

Organisers of this year’s Brighouse Gala are hoping it has raised around £20,000 for local and national charities.

The event attracted a large crowd to Wellholme Park in Brighouse, and featured a host of charities and community groups running stalls.

A number of charities will benefit from the money raised at Saturday’s 51st annual event, including Hipperholme and Lightcliffe Art Society and Christian African Relief Trust (CART).

Other attractions included a duck race and dog show and a procession from Garden Road.
