RAILWAY officials say they will run more Steam & Ale Trails in the future after their inaugural event proved to be a heady success.

Crowds flocked to the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway (K&WVR) at the weekend for the first event. Passengers could disembark at each station and enjoy a pint from a selection of local breweries.

Among the brewers represented were Old Spot, Goose Eye, Bridgehouse and Timothy Taylor. More than 40 tipples were on offer.

“It was the first time we had tried this particular event so didn’t really know what the response would be but we were delighted,” said Sarah Howsen, for the K&WVR.

“With the trail being split over six stations it was difficult to gauge precise numbers, but we certainly had plenty of people on the railway.

“We will certainly be looking to run it again.”

For non ale fans, a range of ciders was also on offer courtesy of the Real Cider Company, or visitors could enjoy wine or sample a Railway Children-themed cocktail.
