A KEIGHLEY man has been banned from keeping animals for life after being convicted by magistrates of causing unnecessary suffering to a Staffordshire bull terrier puppy.
Anthony Montgomery, 29, of Greystones Rise, appeared for sentencing at Leeds Magistrates’ Court.
At a trial earlier this month he was convicted of two offences under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 – causing unnecessary suffering to the puppy by failing to investigate and treat the causes of its lameness, and causing unnecessary suffering by subjecting it to physical trauma. Both offences were committed last August.
In addition to the life ban, magistrates ordered him to carry out 300 hours' unpaid work and pay £750 in costs.
