A PARISH council may buy a village waterfall.

Steeton-with Eastburn Parish Council has formally registered its interest in the plot.

A six-acre area of woodland at Steeton, complete with the waterfall, had been put up for sale recently.

The site is part of Redding Wood and Great Gill, with Steeton Beck flowing through it.

Parish council chairman Councillor David Mullen said the land was an important, historic part of the community and should be preserved.

The sale guide price is £60,000.

"We want to get the site into public ownership and we are submitting an expression of interest," said Cllr Mullen.

"It is an important piece of Steeton's history and we can't lose it. We need to preserve it for residents.

"The beck used to feed several mills – the Woodlands, bobbin and corn mills."

Handling the sale is Keighley property consultant Hayfield Robinson, which more normally deals with large industrial and commercial premises.
