DELIGHTED organisers have hailed the weekend's Bronte Vintage Gathering (BVG) as the best yet.

Thousands of people flocked to the sun-soaked showfield at Cullingworth for the annual fundraiser in aid of Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice Manorlands.

Since it was launched 18 years ago, the event has coined in more than £340,000.

Last year, just over £15,000 was raised.

And the committee behind the extravaganza is hopeful records will be smashed when proceeds from yesterday and today are totted up.

"It was absolutely fantastic – amazing," said Trish Wood, for the BVG team.

"The weather and the atmosphere were incredible. I'm still buzzing!

"We've had thousands of visitors across the weekend and crowds were around the arena for every performance.

"I'd like to say a massive thank-you to everybody – those who were involved in the organising and who helped at the event, everyone who provided attractions and entertainment and of course the public for its wonderful support."

This year's event, at the usual Haworth Road site, featured several new attractions as well as regular favourites.

The line-up in the arena included a sheep show, Xtreme Stunt Team, terrier racing, a dog agility show and SMJ Falconry.

There was also hands-on entertainment across the showground such as fairground rides, a bouncy castle, slides, clay pigeon shooting and Blackpool donkey rides.

In the marquees, visitors could find a range of hand-pulled Old Spot brewery real ales and craft stalls, and there were food and trade stands.

Among many exhibits around the field were classic cars, commercial and military vehicles, motorcycles, miniature steam engines, tractors and organs.

Yesterday there was a collectors’ and machinery auction, followed by live entertainment in the beer tent from Wired.
