KEIGHLEY’s Armed Forces Day is on the move again as a result of its increasing success.

The annual event has been forced to move to a third venue in as many years to provide space for the rising number of attractions.

Keighley Armed Forces Association has booked part of the Marley playing fields – home to Keighley Show – for this year’s event on June 19.

Headline attractions include a ‘War Horse’ First World War re-enactment, a Spitfire and Hurricane flypast and bird of prey displays.

There will also be mini tanks for the public to drive, military vehicles, and military stands displaying kit from the First World War to modern technology.

Association chairman and former soldier Andy Spence said: “Armed Forces Day has been moved to Marley simply because of the space needed.

“You can expect war horses, mini tanks you can drive and possibly a parachute display, as well as many other displays to make it one hell of a spectacle.

“It will certainly be a day to remember, and as far as I know the biggest Armed Forces Day celebration in the area.”

Armed Forces Day in Keighley will begin as usual with a service of acknowledgement to the Armed Forces in the town hall square at 10am.

Half an hour later the event will move to the Marley Fields, where their will be a parade from the entrance into the main arena for the official opening and an inspection.

The event is again being held in partnership with Keighley Town Council and with additional sponsorship by Vodafone.

Mr Spence said the association was working on several additional projects in Keighley to support the armed forces throughout the year.

He said: “To do all this we rely on volunteers, local donations and a lot of goodwill.

“If you would like to be involved with Keighley Armed Forces Association as a volunteer or even just have a stand on Armed Forces Day then please get in touch.

”We should all be behind our armed forces regardless of colour, race, creed and political party and let's show the rest of Yorkshire that Keighley is the place to be.”

Anyone who wants to get involved in the running of the event should visit Facebook and type Keighley Armed Forces Association into the search box.

Armed Forces Day began in Keighley three years ago at Cliffe Castle Park, then moved to Victoria Park.
