KEIGHLEY Town Council is being sued by its former website provider.

The council, which has been locked in a bitter dispute with web firm mh-p Internet Limited, has received a summons to county court for £930 it allegedly owes the business.

Minutes from an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) of the council say the authority will contest the claim.

"The latest communication from the former website supplier is a summons to county court claiming for money for his services he provided," the minutes say.

"The council took a decision to not pay any further money to the former supplier until he provided further information and evidence.

"The managing director threatened to take further action if payment was not received by July 30 2015, which the company is now doing."

The minutes note that Keighley town mayor Councillor Javaid Akhtar (pictured), Councillor Michael Westerman and the assistant town clerk have sought legal advice and contacted the Yorkshire Local Council Association.

Town councillors have discussed the cost implications of mounting a defence against the claim.

Cllr Akhtar said the court appearance date had not yet been confirmed.
