A SLEEPOVER is being held at Keighley Cougar's ground next month in memory of former player Danny Jones.

Keighley-based charity Living Lights is also organising the ambitious event to highlight poverty and homelessness.

It will split proceeds between the Danny Jones Memorial Fund and its own work supporting homeless people in Keighley.

The charity is urging people to go along and camp on the rugby pitch in either sleeping bags or small tents on the night of August 1.

A spokesman said: “It will be an exciting first for Keighley. We hope the community will support this event and make it a great success. We would like to make it an annual event.”

The Living Lights Christian Outreach was set up in 2012 to advise, friendship and practical for people in need in Keighley through a food bank, drop-in sessions and home referral service.

For the latest event it decided to team up with the memorial fund set up to raise money for the two babies of tragic rugby league player Danny Jones.

The 29-year-old Welsh international (pictured) died in May after collapsing at the side of the pitch during a Cougars match against London Skolars.

Club chairman Gary Fawcett said: “I think it is a very good move to utilise the facilities at Cougar Park to highlight the plight of the homeless, and that some of the funds raised will be going towards the Danny Jones Fund.

“It is an excellent example of cooperation and demonstrates how much people care.”
