HAWORTH Main Street has been temporarily closed to through traffic this week to enable remedial work to be carried out by Yorkshire Water.
The work is expected to last approximately five days.
As previously reported, Yorkshire Water says it has identified a number of improperly connected pipes in the area.
The company says this fault involves a toilet, sink, bath, washing machine or dishwasher being wrongly connected into a surface water sewer rather than a foul water sewer, allowing foul water to pollute rivers and streams.
A spokesman for Yorkshire Water has said it must close Main Street while its team repairs two such "misconnections", adding that it has written to local businesses and residents to explain the need for this work.
The firm has also assured the chairman of the local parish council that the job will not damage the road's historic, restored setts.
The Main Street setts were the subject of a major Bradford Council restoration project costing more than £600,000.
