A KEIGHLEY woman who regularly cycled around Europe has died at the age of 101.

Dora Whitehead and her late husband Arnold for many years went on cycling holidays to countries such as Switzerland, Austria, Ireland and Italy.

The pair, who did not own a car, continued cycling until Dora was 60.

She grew up in Manningham, Bradford, moved to Keighley after her marriage, and the couple lived in Exley Head from 1939.

Her husband was a metal pattern maker, spending his working life at Keighley engineering firm Slingsby’s, and she worked there during during the Second World War.

At the age of 90, Mrs Whitehead still regularly attended Keighley Social Centre for the Blind.

In recent years she moved to a residential home in Holmfirth, where her nearest relatives lived, and she particularly liked to be outdoors.

There will be a funeral service at Huddersfield Crematorium on March 2, at 12.15pm to which her friends are invited.
