KEIGHLEY town councillors have voted to continue with their current system of pre-selecting candidates to be their next mayor and deputy mayor.
At their latest full meeting they were asked to consider whether this method would be appropriate for 2015/16.
Current mayor Cllr Graham Mitchell pointed out that an influx of completely new town councillors is anticipated in May, who will then have to vote for a mayor and deputy mayor at the annual general meeting.
He noted that as newcomers these councillors would probably be unfamiliar with anyone who has been selected in advance as a candidate.
Cllr Sally Walker argued: “If we follow our usual system of pre-selecting, this would be advisory for those new councillors coming in.
“They may be totally new to any sort of government, so I think pre-selection would be a good idea.”
