AN OPTICIANS is helping school children in the district be seen this winter.
Specsavers in Keighley has presented 100 high-visibility jackets each to Oxenhope, Oakworth and Cullingworth primary schools.
The initiative was planned to coincide with National Road Safety Week.
Nigel Wilson, director at Specsavers’ Keighley store, said: “At this time of year – with dark mornings and nights, combined with winter weather – it can be difficult for motorists to see pedestrians, and dusk is particularly hazardous when the children are walking home from school.
“With this in mind we decided that, as part of Road Safety Week, we wanted to help increase the safety of children locally.
“As part of the initiative we are also hoping to raise awareness of the free glasses and eye tests available to under-16s. It is important to make sure children have regular eye tests, as an undetected problem could lead to something more severe in the long term.”
