MORE areas of Keighley’s historic town centre have been restored to their former glory thanks to regeneration work funded by a major grant scheme.
The Keighley Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI), a £2.7million programme backed by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Bradford Council, has been working with property owners in the Keighley Town Centre Conservation Area.
Its latest efforts have been focussed on Church Street.
Keighley THI officer Sue Oakley said: “Church Street is at the heart of the old town of Keighley, where the street layout is organic and the older buildings have a distinct character, with stone slate roofs and simple detailing.”
Three new shop fronts have been replaced with replicas of original Victorian shop fronts and 28 to 34 Church Street has been restored.
Other Progress includes work to the Red Pig pub and a makeover of Eastern Taste.
