VISITORS to Keighley Campus Leeds City College will be in for a surprise next month.

A dreaded character from science-fiction classic Dr Who will be on hand to greet them at the doors during the premises’ open evening on Wednesday, November 12.

People will be able to tour the STAR Centre, visit the mission control simulation and cosmodome, and dress up as an astronaut in the planetary landscape section.

And Derek the Dalek will greet visitors in the campus atrium during the evening, though they will be relieved to know he is on a mission to educate not exterminate.

A college spokesman said: “Derek is remote-controlled and has a radio mic and Dalek voice encoder, enabling the operator to communicate with humans in real time.

“Derek will be one of a number of attractions showcasing our STAR Centre, as part of the wider campus open evening running from 5-7pm.”
