A WELL-KNOWN community worker has taken charge of domestic violence issues for Bradford Council.
Noreen Akhtar has become the district’s top-level coordinator for all issues relating to violence against women and girls.
She will liaise with all organisations, including police, health services and voluntary groups, who provide services for victims across the district.
Lifelong Keighley woman Mrs Akhtar, 36, landed the prestigious post after working with fellow residents and community groups for the past 16 years.
For more than a decade she has been a leading member of the council’s Keighley Area Coordinator’s office.
Mrs Akhtar, who is married and has two children, was born in Highfield and attended Greenhead School, where she became head girl.
