THE SWINGING 60s returned for the hip and cool pensioners of Keighley.

About 180 people gathered for a day of music and dance at Victoria Hall.

Local organisations laid on a host of trendy attractions to celebrate International Older People’s Week.

Senior citizens were able to try line dancing, and singing with the Shared Harmonies group, then sit back and listen to songs from a Billy Fury and Buddy Holly tribute act.

There were stalls from several organisations that provide activities or services for older people, including the NHS.

The Swinging 60s event was run under the umbrella of Keighley Elderly Initiatives Group and the three local Mutual Support Networks, which bring together dozens of older people’s groups.

Julie Lintern, a support worker with Keighley and Ilkley Voluntary and Community Action, said the event was Keighley’s showcase for Older People’s Week.

She said: “We used it as a platform to get more people out. The ultimate aim was for people not to feel lonely.

“It’s been a brilliant day – people have been raving about it. There were lots of opportunities for people to have taster of what’s going on in Keighley all the time, like the line dancing and singing.”
