A mother-of-three says her family will be “torn apart” if a last attempt to save a heart unit from closure fails.
Campaigners in Yorkshire and the Humber now have until April 16 to make comments on the children’s heart surgery unit at Leeds General Infirmary (LGI), which faces closure. However, a review team looking at plans for heart units, said people should be allowed to make comments about travel, after a previous report was not available during an initial consultation.
The last chance to comment has been welcomed by supporters of the threatened unit, including Naomi Wilkinson, from Ilkley.
Her daughter, Olivia, four, had her life saved twice by specialists at LGI, after undergoing 18 hours of surgery.
She has an incurable heart defect, and now her mother is making a final rallying call for support for the unit.
