Worried parents in Burley-in-Wharfedale want education bosses to create enough places in village schools for their children.
They will tell education officials at a meeting tomorrow that they want no repeat of the distress caused by some four-year-olds being denied places at a local primary.
Education officials are due to attend the Burley-in-Wharfedale Forum at the Queens Hall, Main Street, at 7.30pm. Research and development officer Nina Mewse and Bradford Council’s admissions officer Val Jordan will provide information on the admissions arrangements for schools in the village.
Linda Kelly, of Tanfield Drive, Burley-in-Wharfedale, said she did not want her three-year-old daughter Megan to have to go through the same ‘horrendous’ appeals process, or be sent to a school away from her friends.
Councillor Michael Kelly, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Services to Children and Young People, said: “We have been working with schools to increase capacity and we have a continuous monitoring process which includes discussions with stakeholders.”
This year Burley and Woodhead CoE Primary offered 31 places and Burley Oaks offered 51.
