A MAN from Menston is due to appear in court charged with historic offences relating to sexual abuse at a children’s home.

Melvin Hamilton Blake, aged 69, from Menston, has been charged with 11 counts of indecent assault, two counts of buggery and 17 counts relating to possession of prohibited images of children and possession of extreme pornographic images.

Also appearing with him at Leeds Magistrates Court on Friday is Len Anthony Lake, aged 61, of Ireland Wood, Leeds, who has been charged with two counts of indecent assault and Marion Beresford, 60, of Glasgow, charged with seven counts of indecent assault.

The charges against the three relate to the former Shadwell children’s home in the 1980s and 1990s.

They were arrested as part of Operation Polymer, which is an ongoing investigation into physical and sexual abuse at children’s homes in Leeds in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.
