A WOMAN threw her handbag at a knife-point robber when he demanded cash from her.

The 55 year-old victim was on Wharfe View Road in Ilkley, heading towards the Playhouse, when she was approached by the man.

She threw her handbag at the suspect, who then ran off towards Weston Road.

Police said the woman was unhurt but shaken by the incident, which happened at around 7.15pm on Saturday, November 29.

The man, who was white and believed to be over 6ft tall, had his face covered and was said to be wearing a dark coloured tracksuit and possibly a padded jacket.

Detective Inspector Alan Flynn, of Bradford District CID, said: "We would like to appeal to anyone who might have seen someone acting suspiciously in the Wharfe View Road or Weston Road area in the time leading up to, or shortly after the incident.

"Officers from the neighbourhood area team have been conducting reassurance patrols in Ilkley and will be available to speak to anyone with any concerns."
