A 12-YEAR-old boy has been praised for his “huge achievement” in winning a silver medal at the Taekwondo Commonwealth Championships.
Ilkley Grammar School pupil Jamie Simpson-Kidd, representing Team England, enjoyed success in the cadet category (12 to 14 years) at the competition in Edinburgh.
Ian Radcliffe, key stage leader at the school, said: “This is fantastic news for Jamie, a huge achievement.”
The youngster beat Australian Mackenzie Spiers in his first match, before besting one of his England team mates, Tyler Barwell, in the semi-finals. He lost to another teammate, Matthew Guest, in the final.
Jamie, who has been involved in the sport since he was three years old, said he was “very proud” to represent his country.
