THE contribution older people make to society has been celebrated at events across the district.
National initiative Silver Sunday aims to bring older people together to combat loneliness or isolation.
In Burley-in-Wharfedale, local councillor Jackie Whiteley, Burley Parish Clerk Ian Orton and Wendy Kipling organised a brunch at the Queens Hall.
Cllr Whiteley (Con) said: "Silver Sunday is an ideal opportunity to bring people together for a chat and we hope to do it again next year, possibly with a different theme. I am open to suggestions."
In Bradford, the Sunbridge Road Mission held a community lunch, and Tim Shelton, project co-ordinator at Mary Seacole Court Day Centre, hosted an afternoon get-together.
The Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Mike Gibbons, was at all three events.
He said: "Older people contribute much to our society and I was delighted to join in this celebration."
The event was sponsored by former Lord Mayor Councillor Dale Smith’s Sprinkle Sunshine Charity.
