ANTI-bloodsports protestors are lobbying the leader of Bradford Council to end grouse shooting on Ilkley Moor, after a petition failed to convince councillors.

Ban Bloodsports on Ilkley Moor (BBIM) has written to Councillor David Green ahead of the meeting of the Council's Executive today.

Coun Green will hear a recommendation from the Environment and Waste Management Scrutiny Committee that the current shooting agreement with Bingley Moor Partnership should be allowed to continue to its end date in 2018.

The committee made the recommendation at its meeting on September 30, when representatives of BBIM presented the 1,000-signature petition to the council.

But the coalition of anti-bloodsports campaigners vowed to protest.

They sent a letter to Councillor Green this week, claiming the recommendation to continue with shooting fails to reflect the conflicts of interest between those granted the shooting deed and the users and conservation of Ilkley Moor.

The group called for Coun Green to put the matter to a full council vote or enact the exit clause of the shooting deed.

BBIM spokesman, Luke Steele, said: "This is Bradford Council's last chance to get things right for the future of Ilkley Moor. The serious conflicts of interest between grouse shooting and wildlife, public use and the regional economy cannot be ignored.”
