The newly-elected President of the Rotary Club of Ilkley is John Metcalf, a well-known former town businessman and local resident.
Almost £1,800 was raised for the charity Wheel Chair Foundation UK at the Rotary Club’s charity dinner at The Cavendish Pavilion, Bolton Abbey, which was organised by President Peter Settle shortly before relinquishing office.
This money will allow for the purchase of 24 wheelchairs for people in Africa and all over the world who have no other means of acquiring a wheelchair.
Last month as part of a continuing ongoing programme of support, Rotary arranged the purchase and distribution of 670 wheelchairs in Namibia.
