Police have released this CCTV image of a group of youths seen near where a 51-year-old Asian man was punched in the face in a racially-motivated attack.

The man was walking down an alleyway in Goose Hill, between Milton Square and Cemetery Road, Heckmondwike, when he was approached by a group of between six and ten white teenagers.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said the youths shouted racial abuse at the man, who was then punched in the face by one of the youths, before they ran away towards High Street.

The spokesman said: “The victim was left shaken by the incident, but with only minor facial injuries.”

The attack happened at about 6.45pm on Thursday.

The spokesman said the man was able to describe two of the youths.

One was about 5ft 7ins, slim, with short, spiky hair that was highlighted. He was wearing a white top, a black and white scarf and dark bottoms. He also had a light-coloured jacket wrapped around his waist.

The second had a shaved head, was skinny and about 5ft 11ins. He was wearing tracksuit bottoms.

The spokesman said: “CCTV from a nearby shop shows a group of youths in the area at the time the incident took place.

“Police are releasing this still in a bid to trace those responsible and to eliminate the innocent from their inquiries.”
