An iconic stained-glass window at St Andrew’s, Gargrave, has been smashed by youngsters playing football inside the church.
The congregation has only just raised £30,000 to pay for roof repairs.
The priest-in-charge the Reverend Rod Geddes said: “What really annoys me is that the parish has given its support and helped out, but now a small group of youths has done this.”
Mr Geddes is hoping that CCTV cameras will identify the offenders.
Two boys have been arrested and bailed pending further inquiries.
