Police have described the burglary of an 86-year-old woman’s house as despicable.
Two men posing as water board officials stole cash from the woman’s house in Cowling, near Keighley, after she let them in at 2pm on Friday.
A police spokesman said the woman had been left very distressed: “It’s a despicable act to prey on elderly members of the community.”
The suspects were white and in their early 30s. One was about 5ft 10ins, slim and had fair hair. The second man was about 6ft, of medium build and had short mousy brown hair.
Both wore navy blue jackets and dark blue trousers.
Police have appealed to anyone who saw the two men in the Middleton, Ickornshaw or Cowling areas on Friday to contact them on 0845 6060247 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
Police have received information that two men were seen getting into a small black car in the Middleton area at about the relevant time.
“These men may have tried, unsuccessfully to get into other people’s homes too,” said the spokesman.
