Traditional cockney pie and mash is tickling the tastebuds of Yorkshire tykes.

Skipton Pie & Mash Shop in Coach Street has been launched by Londoner Nick Osborn, with fellow Londoner Kelvin Aulton in charge of the cooking.

“These are the traditional pies which we present exactly as they would be in London along with the traditional parsley liquor. The dish is presented in a soup bowl with the pie in the middle along with the liquor and the mash spread along the flat shoulder of the dish,” said Nick.

“What we don’t sell, as they do in London, is jellied eels, but we offer more variety of pie flavours.”

Kelvin, who is assisted in the kitchen by Phillip Lee, said: “We source everything from the local area and make everything here.”

To cater for those reluctant to have a go at pie and mash, Kelvin prepares mushy peas and chips as an alternative.

During its launch weekend, 500 free pie and mash dinners were given away and £381 was collected by the White Knights Motorcycle Organisation, a charity which assists the health service.
