Georgina Ackroyd, of Wrose, and Lauren Harris, of Guiseley, chosen to star in London fashion showcase
8:30am Friday 3rd June 2011 in Wrose By Hannah Baker
Two fashion students from the Bradford district are to follow in the footsteps of style legends John Galliano, Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen.
Georgina Ackroyd, of Clara Road, Wrose, and Lauren Harris, of Hillway, Guiseley – both final year students at Manchester Metropolitan University – will have their work showcased as part of Graduate Fashion Week in London.
The 22-year-olds have been asked to send six outfits down the catwalk at the show on Tuesday after being selected by a panel of judges.
Miss Ackroyd, a former Hanson School pupil and Bradford College student, has landed a job with Abercrombie and Fitch after completing a design project for the fashion label while at university.
She said: “I’ve been interested in the fashion industry since I was a child and get ideas for garments from items such as family photographs and vintage clothes.
“My final collection features screen print designs inspired by the 1940s.”
Miss Harris attended Guiseley School and Ilkley Grammar School before taking an Art Foundation course at Leeds College of Art.
Her goal is to become a head menswear or knitwear designer within a well-established company.
She said: “I’d never knitted anything before I started my university course and now I’m the only menswear knitter in my year.
Graduate Fashion Week, which started in 1991 to promote emerging talent in the fashion industry, runs from Sunday to Wednesday at Earls Court.
