Several local schools have been named in a survey of the best establishments in the country to be published tomorrow.

Ermysted’s Grammar School in Gargrave Road, has beaten its neighbour Skipton Girls’ High School into second place in The Sunday Times Parent Power annual survey, out tomorrow.

Graham Hamilton, who became head at the school in September, paid tributes to staff, students and his predecessor, former head Tom Ashworth.

He said: “We are delighted. Our challenge now is to maintain the quality of teaching and learning, and that of our extra-curricular activities in sport and music.”

Bradford Grammar School in Keighley Road came in second in the county in the survey’s top independent school category.

It was ranked 77th best in the country in the survey.

Ben Rhydding Primary School in Bolling Road, Ilkley, came second in the top ten state primary schools in the north category.

Westville House School in Ilkley, Woodhouse Grove Prep School in Apperley Bridge and Priestley House Junior School in Batley, were in the top ten independent prep schools in Yorkshire.
