The 90th anniversary of Sutton War Memorial will be commemorated at a special ceremony on Saturday.

The memorial in Sutton Park was unveiled on March 19, 1921, and featured three bronze plaques inscribed with the names of soldiers who lost their lives in the First World War. A separate plaque was fitted after the Second World War.

Saturday’s ceremony, which starts at 2pm in Sutton Park, is being organised by former Cross Hills man Dr John Laycock, who now lives in Hampshire. It will start with 20 members of Haworth Home Guard, a 1940s living history group, parading from the park keeper’s cottage to the memorial. Canon Michael Cowgill, vicar of St Thomas’ Church in Sutton, will give the blessing.
