A moorland church built at the time of the Brontes which now has just seven regular worshippers is celebrating only its third wedding in ten years.

Making their vows at remote Scar Top chapel – next to Ponden reservoir at Stanbury near Keighley – on Saturday, are Lianne Silson and Brian Dobson.

Lianne and Brian fell in love with the 200-seat chapel after getting to know it through Lianne’s aunt and lay preacher, Wendy Craven, of Liversedge.

And to put the icing on the wedding cake, Wendy is to preside when the couple make their vows.

Lianne, 29, and Wendy have been busy decorating the chapel, built originally as a single-storey school in 1818, with flowers and ribbons.

“It’s a wonderful building and the scenery and location are beautiful,” said Lianne, who lives with her 44-year-old partner in Cullingworth. “It’s a dream for me to have my wedding in a building like this which has so much tradition.

“I have a close relationship with my aunt and I first saw the chapel about four years ago when I came to help her prepare refreshments when she was preaching.

“Now I’m here to help her when she preaches and at other special occasions.”

Brian, who was recently made redundant from his job in paint manufacturing, said: “It’s a brilliant building, a great place to get married.”

On the big day, Lianne will be wearing an ivory oriental-style dress in silk and taffeta and studded with pearls. Conducting the service will be Pastor Bryon Lingard, of the Majestic Church in Barnoldswick.
