A record entry is expected for a race and walk which aims to raise thousands of pounds for charity.
More people have entered the BigK 10K event in Keighley on Mother’s Day, this Sunday, than ever before.
A total of 650 entrants took part in the first race in 2008 but that number has already been overtaken and more are anticipated to sign up on the day.
Organisers also expect to break the event’s £18,000 fundraising record for Manorlands, the Sue Ryder hospice at Oxenhope.
Last year’s winner Adrian Jones, one of the area’s top cyclists, will start the event in Victoria Park, Keighley.
To complete the race, the runners will complete a lap of Victoria Park where there will be a variety of acts to entertain the crowd.
Sue Ryder fundraiser Andrew Wood said: “Many people know that we are struggling to fund our local services at present and we are immensely grateful to the community for turning out in such numbers to help us out.
"With great support coming from Keighley campus of Leeds City College, Keighley area committee, White Rose Volkswagen and Airedale Shopping Centre, it means that every penny of the entry fee people pay and any sponsorship goes straight towards caring for patients.”

Personally I've never been able to understand why anyone would wish to run anywhere for the 'fun' of it. Seems like a monumental waste of time and effort. And if it's simply for the health benefits there are far more efficient methods of getting fit. On the plus side it is 'free' to do once you have the basic kit.

Is it merely coincidence but I often see runners pounding the streets when it is raining, cold and miserable; their faces etched with the pain of their of their own private hell. What are they trying to prove (and to whom)? I'm often tempted to offer them a lift when I'm passing as, clearly, they seem to be hating every minute of it.
