Teenagers have secured a £250 grant to refurbish a youth shelter.
The money for the shelter in Oakworth, Keighley, has come from mobile phone company O2, whose It’s Your Community fund has provided £1 million across the UK for young people’s projects.
The refurbishment is part of efforts by the Oakworth Forward group, which applied for the funding, to improve the lot for young people in the village.
Community worker Shaun O’Hare said the shelter, at the top of Holden Park, was built eight years ago.
He said: “Its dishevelled, graffiti-covered appearance has attracted much negative comment from local people.
“It’s even earned the name ‘the idiot hut’.”
Mr O’Hare said the young people asked to improve the shelter by painting it and amending the design.
