Police have appealed for witnesses to a crash involving two cars which left a 91-year-old woman in a critical condition.

Pool Bank New Road at Pool-in-Wharfedale was closed for more than five hours on Saturday following the collision which left three people injured.

A silver Honda Jazz, travelling away from Otley along Leeds Road, flipped onto its roof after it was in collision with a silver Rover 25, heading up Pool Bank, at the junction next to the Dyneley Arms pub.

The driver and passenger of the Honda, an 89-year-old man and the 91-year-old woman, of St Albans, Hert-fordshire, received serious injuries.

The woman was in a critical condition while the man was described by police as being stable.

The driver and a passenger of the Rover, a 54-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman, of Richmond, North Yorkshire, were also hurt. Their injuries were not life-threatening.

All four were taken to Leeds General Infirmary.

Police have urged witnesses to the incident, which occurred at about 11.35am on Saturday, to call PC Darren Wood at Horsforth police station via 0845 6060606.
