Hunt for Ilkley burglar

A man claiming to be a tree surgeon is being hunted by officers after jewellery was stolen in a house burglary.

The man was seen in a front garden in Maxwell Road, Ilkley, by neighbours and told them he was a tree surgeon.

He also asked if anyone was inside the house during the incident, at about 3.15pm on Wednesday, March 28.

Later in the day, the property was broken into and several items, including a jewellery box and trinket jewellery, were taken.

The man seen in the garden was described as around 6ft tall, 25 to 30-years-old and slim with ginger hair. He was wearing a T-shirt and dark-coloured tracksuit bottoms with green Hunter wellington boots and spoke with a Yorkshire accent.

Detectives from Airedale and North Bradford CID say no callers were expected at the house on the day and appeal to anyone with information to contact them on the 101 non-emergency number.

Information can also be passed, in confidence, to CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111.
