Ashlands Primary School seeks rise in admissions
8:50am Tuesday 13th March 2012 in Ilkley
Council chiefs are being asked to approve plans to raise the admissions number at an oversubscribed Ilkley primary school.
Bradford Council’s Executive is expected to make a decision on Friday over proposals to increase admissions at Ashlands Primary School, Leeds Road, to a two-form entry of 60 children in 2013.
The official Published Admissions Number per year group is 45, but five of its seven year groups have more children, with a total of 60 in this year’s reception class. If the increase is agreed, the authority will be required to publish proposals to enlarge the premises.
The move is supported by the school’s governors.
It is also proposed to raise the school’s total pupil capacity to 420, from 315.
The proposed expansion comes a week after Ilkley Grammar School’s head warned the town’s only senior school might not be able to meet demand in future.
