Guiseley School pupils used their heads to raise cash for a worthy cause.
Pupils and staff donned hats, made and sold buns, pin badges and balloons to raise £700 for Brain Tumour Research on Wear a Hat Day.
The day is a national campaign organised by BTRS’ umbrella charity, Brain Tumour Research.
For year 11 pupil Hannah Barnes, who was helped by fellow pupils including Alison Webb, the event was particularly pertinent.
She wanted to support the charity as her youngster sister, Rachel, was left fighting for life after a freak accident when she fell and fractured her skull.
Thankfully Rachel made a full recovery, thanks to the skill of the neurosurgeons at Leeds General Infirmary.
Carol Robertson from Bingley-based BTRS, formerly Andrea’s Gift, said: “I live in Guiseley and it was wonderful to drive through and see the pupils wearing their hats to school, many of the teachers joined in and looked very dapper.”
The money will go towards funding vital research conducted by Dr Sean Lawler and his team at the Leeds Institute of Molecular Medicine.
Dr Lawler said: “I am overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and energy these young people have shown.”
