Civic guardians have decided to carry out their own consultation exercise over plans for bigger new wind turbines near a reservoir.

Addingham Civic Society has produced a tear-off slip in its April newsletter – circulated to homes around the village – asking residents if they object to Kelda Water Services’ plans at the Chelker Reservoir.

The society has given villagers until April 8 to complete the slip, and intends to write to planning authority Craven District Council stating the community’s views.

Members of the society have also produced their own images depicting how they believe the proposed turbines – around twice the height of the existing structures – will look from Addingham.

In its April newsletter, the society says the turbines would be visible from “many vantage points throughout the village” as well as stretches of the Yorkshire Dales.

Last week, Kelda, which wants the turbines to provide some of the power needed for two pumping stations, said it was “surprised” by previous criticism of the plans by Addingham Civic Society.
