The head teacher of Addingham Primary School is supportive of plans to create a replacement for the village Scout hut, councillors have heard.

Addingham parish clerk, Michelle Holland, told parish councillors last Wednesday that headteacher Jane Drake had confirmed in principle that she would support plans for a Scout hut in the school grounds.

But the final decision would not be for Mrs Drake to make, the council heard.

Since plans fell through for the Addingham Recreation Centre (ARC) Project, councillors have switched their focus to expanding or extending Addingham Youth Centre on Bolton Road.

The council has promised to find a new base for the Scouts, who lost their former Scout hut when the parish council sold the land to make way for the new Addingham Medical Centre.

Following public consultation, steering group members agreed that the ARC scheme was ‘too big’ for the need identified in Addingham. The centre would have provided facilities and a meeting place for the wider community, as well as the Scouts.
